Seminar-workshop

Seminar-workshop “Strategic litigation on LGBT issues in Lithuania: possibilities and role of NGOs” took place on 29 November 2012 in LGBT centre in Vilnius.

This seminar-workshop was aiming to equip the participants with sufficient knowledge on strategic litigation on LGBTI issues with the view to help build it into the organization’s advocacy plans. During the workshop LGL members and activists learned the concept of strategic litigation: how to use anti-discrimination laws, how to collect evidence of discrimination and work with national equality bodies. They were also introduced to the relevant case law of the ECHR, particularly on freedom of assembly, hate crime and hate speech and transgender issues, and to the practicalities of taking cases to national Court and ECHR.

The seminar-workshop consisted of presentations/inputs by the lecturers – human rights expert Jolanta Samuolyte, advocate Diana Gumbreviciute-Kuzminskiene and project assistant Tomas Vytautas Raskevicius – followed by practical exercises, case studies and discussion moderated by Jolanta Samuolyte.

After this seminar-workshop, the litigation strategy on LGBTI issues will be amended according to the comments of the participants of the workshop.
