More Effective Protection of LGBTI Rights by Strengthening Inter-institutional Cooperation 01 2024 – 12 2024

The aim of the project is to identify the core issues of ensuring LGBTI rights, to reveal their specificity at national and regional level, to reduce discrimination against LGBTI persons, to strengthen equal opportunities and human rights standards through analytical, advocacy and educational activities, while at the same time building a culture of accountability and trust between the LGBTI community and the institutions.

The project is based on strengthening inter-institutional cooperation in order to increase the competence and awareness of decision-makers and professionals working in the fields of education, social protection, law enforcement, culture and health in the field of LGBTI human rights, to communicate recommended solutions and promote the principles of equal treatment, to support positive developments in the field of LGBTI human rights and to improve the compliance with the international human rights standards, to analyse Lithuania’s progress in the field of equal opportunities for LGBTI persons.

The target groups of the project include groups with actual decision-making power in the field of LGBTI rights protection (i.e. legislators, policy makers and public policy implementers) and direct beneficiaries (i.e. the LGBTI community in Lithuania). Indirect beneficiaries can be considered to be the Lithuanian society (in terms of social cohesion, equality, diversity and pluralism), public administration professionals working in the fields of education, social protection, law enforcement, culture and health.

The project’s analytical and advocacy activities will also be aligned with the EU LGBTIQ Equality Strategy and its recommendations for the systematic implementation of international LGBTI human rights standards in Lithuania.
