Connecting families, educators and policymakers to combat violence and improve the well-being of LGBTIQ children in the Nordic-Baltic region 06 2025 – 09 2026

LGBTIQ children and their families in the Nordic and Baltic regions and Ukraine continue to face stigma, discrimination, and violence. Despite progress in some areas, gaps remain in legal protections, societal acceptance, and support systems. This project seeks to address these challenges by uniting families, educators, and policymakers to foster understanding, collaboration, and policy change. The primary objectives are to enhance awareness of the realities faced by rainbow families, strengthen support networks, and promote inclusive representation to combat discrimination.

The project will be implemented through key activities, including research on the experiences of rainbow families, a presentation at the ILGA-Europe conference, an international conference during the Lithuanian Pride festival, and a role model photo exhibition showcasing positive representations of rainbow families. These activities will facilitate knowledge-sharing, advocacy, and community-building.

Expected outcomes include increased awareness of LGBTIQ children’s challenges, stronger cooperation among stakeholders, policy recommendations for violence prevention, and a broader shift toward inclusivity. Led by LGL in Lithuania, the project involves partnerships with civil society organizations from Iceland, Denmark, Estonia, and Ukraine. These organizations will contribute through research, advocacy, and engagement, ensuring a sustainable impact beyond the project’s duration.
