ILGA-Europe Annual Conference: National Panel and Press Conference

At the 2025 ILGA-Europe Annual Conference, LGL co-hosted two key events spotlighting a turning point for LGBT family rights in Lithuania.

Following the Constitutional Court’s ruling that the lack of partnership regulation violates the Constitution—and the Vilnius District Court’s historic registration of a same-sex couple—politicians can no longer delay action. With amendments to the Civil Code now ready for parliamentary debate, the focus has shifted from whether to regulate partnership to how.

National Panel: Which Way Forward for Equality?

The national panel, “The Future of Partnership in Lithuania: Between Court Rulings and Parliamentary Will,” brought together policymakers, legal experts, and activists to discuss next steps.
Speakers examined whether progress is now inevitable, whether the proposals before Parliament meet the real needs of LGBT people, and how political promises can translate into tangible rights rather than symbolic gestures.

Press Conference: From Courtrooms to Parliament

At the accompanying press conference, LGL’s Vladimir Simonko and Monika Antanaitytė joined Artūras Rudomanskis, Aivaras Žilvinskas, and ILGA-Europe’s Katrin Hugendubel to outline what is at stake as Lithuania moves toward legislative reform. The discussion highlighted the need for Parliament to transform court victories into durable legal protections for all families.
