EVS volunteer Veronika supported LGBT* organization in Slovakia “Saplinq”

Our EVS volunteers are not volunteering just for equality of LGBT* people in Lithuania, but they stay in contact with their homeland LGBT* organizations and support them from abroad. Our current EVS volunteer Veronika from Slovakia is a good example of this practice. One of her learning goals on her EVS is to improve her English. This goal has matched very well with the need of the Slovak LGBT+ organization Saplinq, as they would like to become a member of an international LGBTI organization “ILGA Europe”. Recently Veronika worked on the translation of their Statutes from Slovak to English, since the Statutes in English are necessary to apply for membership in “ILGA Europe”.

Saplinq is a Slovak queer organization that was founded in 2012. According their statutes their mission is to build a community of queer people and to search for, support and develop initiatives of queer people. They teach, educate and lead the future queer leaders. They also provide consulting assistance to queer initiatives, build and extend the networks of queer activists in Slovakia and interconnect them with foreign countries. Their networks also helped Veronika to find her EVS.

Among their biggest projects belongs the organization of PRIDE Košice, festival and march for equality of LGBT+ people in eastern Slovakia. This year the festival will be organized for the fourth time. The festival will offer a range of various events, lasting from the 28th of August to the 3rd of September, when the Pride March is going through the Košice, metropolis of eastern Slovakia. You can support organization of this event in their fundraising campaign here!
