In the course of implementing the national awareness raising campaign “#TRANS_LT”, the National LGBT* Rights Organization LGL will organize multiple events between December 8th and 10th, 2015 with the view of discussing the avenues of quick, transparent and accessible gender reassignment procedure in Lithuania. On December 8th (i.e. Tuesday) we will invite community members, legislators, policy makers and members of the general public to an open community event, where the first TRANS* social videos in the history of Lithuania will be launched and the art exhibition by the artists Arcana Femina and Shaltmira will be presented. On December 9th (i.e. Wednesday) one more interesting day is ahead of us – in the morning we are meeting with the members of the Lithuanian Parliament with the view of discussing the implementation of the highest attainable human rights standards for transgender individuals in Lithuania, while in the afternoon together with the National Equality and Diversity Forum (NEDF) we are organizing a seminar-discussion “Human Rights in Lithuania. NGOs’ Perspective“. On December 10th (i.e. Thursday) representatives of the international organization Transgender Europe (TGEU) will host a half-day training session for the staff members of LGL and other interested NGOs with the view of increasing the capacity in advocating for accessible TRANS* health care. The more elaborate descriptions of the outlined events can be accessed below.

The protagonists of the video Oskaras, Zhenia and Jūratukas will transcend the screen and will become our guests for the nights. The artists Arcana Femina and Shaltmira will present their joint project – the art exhibition “TRANZ”, were the elements of their previous projects “#TransAwesome“ ir “By the Way“ are intertwined with the view of producing new powerful message.
The guests of the night will be greeted by the scandalous Okeanide. “LGBT* lives are related not only to deficits,“ – says Okeanide. „We are stronger than all the bigots, because we know how to laugh even at times, when you only want to cry.” Because the occasion is really special, the guests of the night will be treated with a glass of wine as well.

„Human Rights in Lithuania. NGO’s Perspective“
The Embassy of Finland in Vilnius (K. Kalinausko str. 24, Vilnius)
December 9th, 2015, 2:00-4:30 PM
On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, the National Equality and Diversity Forum (NEDF) cordially invites you to the seminar-discussion “Human Rights in Lithuania. NGOs’ Perspective”. In the public discourse we often hear that the effective implementation of human rights standards is of the secondary priority, ceasing its importance over economic, geopolitical and social realities of the country. However, the representatives of the civil society, who engage with the promotion of human rights on a daily basis, remind us – the maturity of the democratic society, based on pluralist values, is inseparable from effective implementation of individual rights and freedoms.
In the course of the seminar-discussion, the representatives of the civil society will discuss some of the most pressing human rights challenges under the present day conditions, namely: (1) prevalence of the discriminatory attitudes in the Lithuanian society, based on the results of the “Eurobarometer” survey “Discrimination in the EU 2015”; (2) opportunities within the UN human rights protection mechanisms with the view of ensuring effective implementation of human rights standards in Lithuania – the case of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; (3) implementation of the right to legal gender recognition and the right to gender reassignment treatment in Lithuania – challenges and perspectives.
The National Equality and Diversity Forum (NEDF) is a non-formal network of civil society organizations, representing various socially vulnerable groups within the Lithuanian society. The Forum consists of the Lithuanian Forum of the Disabled, the National LGBT* Rights Organization LGL, the Women’s Issues Information Center, the House of National Communities, the Lithuanian Community of Seniors “Bočiai” and the New Religions Research and Information Center.
The languages of the event will be Lithuanian and English (simultaneous translation).
