Baltic Pride 2025 Week Officially Launched with Reception at the British Embassy

On the evening of June 3rd, 2025 the British Ambassador to Lithuania, Liz Boyles, hosted a special reception at the British Embassy Garden in Vilnius to officially open Baltic Pride 2025 week. The event brought together members of the LGBTQ+ community, civil society leaders, diplomatic representatives, business partners, and human rights defenders in a celebration of diversity, inclusion, and solidarity.

The reception marked not only the beginning of a week of pride events across Vilnius but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of visibility, support, and collective action in advancing equality and human rights.

A key moment during the evening was the presentation of the Baltic Pride Awards – an initiative recognizing companies that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community in Lithuania. These businesses were honoured for their leadership in promoting inclusive workplaces and their public advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights. Their contributions continue to set an important example of how the private sector can play an active role in building a more open and respectful society.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Boyles emphasized the UK’s ongoing support for human rights and the importance of fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live freely and safely. She also reaffirmed the Embassy’s partnership with local organisations such as the National LGBT rights organization LGL in the ongoing work to promote equality and inclusion.

Vladimir Simonko, Executive Director of the National LGBT rights organization LGL, also addressed the guests. In his speech, he emphasised the significance of strong and visible international support, particularly from institutions such as the British Embassy. He highlighted the impact of allyship on local LGBTQ+ advocacy and expressed gratitude for the continued partnership and solidarity.

On behalf of LGL, Mr. Simonko extended heartfelt thanks to Ambassador Boyles and the entire team at the British Embassy for hosting the event and for their ongoing commitment to LGBTQ+ rights in Lithuania. He noted that such support sends a strong message—not only to the LGBTQ+ community but to society as a whole—about the importance of inclusion, respect, and equality.

The event’s setting – a colourful and welcoming garden space – underscored the spirit of the occasion: proud, joyful, and united in purpose. Attendees were encouraged to dress colourfully to reflect the diversity and vibrancy of the LGBTQ+ community.

As Baltic Pride Week continues, events, discussions, and celebrations will take place throughout Vilnius, culminating in the annual March for Equality, where thousands are expected to come together to advocate for love, equality, and human dignity.

The organisers extend their sincere gratitude to the British Embassy for its enduring support and for hosting such a meaningful launch event for Baltic Pride 2025.
