From 17–19 June 2026, Eglė Kuktoraitė, Communications Manager at the Lithuanian Gay League (LGL), participated in the Council of Europe’s No Hate Speech Week events in Strasbourg. The event brought together human rights experts, civil society organisations, policymakers, and technology specialists from across Europe to strengthen democratic resilience and explore effective ways to combat hate speech.
This year’s theme, “Hack the Hate, Renew Democracy,” focused on the impact of hate speech on democracy, human rights, and social inclusion. Discussions also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and civil society in fostering safer and more inclusive public spaces.
On 19 June, LGL, together with FUEN, organised a thematic session dedicated to documenting, analysing, and monitoring hate speech targeting minorities and LGBTIQ+ people. The session explored monitoring methodologies, documentation practices, and the importance of international cooperation in protecting LGBTIQ+ communities and other minority groups from discrimination and hostility.
