“Rainbow Rights” Regional Seminar took place in Vilnius

On 23rd November, 2017 the National LGBT* rights organization LGL, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice Finland, the association Seta – LGBTI Rights in Finland, the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities and the Embassy of Finland in Lithuania invited to the regional seminar under the framework of the project “Rainbow Rights – Promoting LGBTI Equality in Europe” in Vilnius.

The aim of the seminar was to share information about the recent developments around LGBTI rights and policies in four Member states, namely: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.

2 panels and 3 workshops of a regional seminar looked at the situation in four Member States with an aim to develop more knowledge on the issues relevant for LGBTI people and make the challenges that LGBTI people face visible and understandable for the public. A special focus on trans issues was highlighted during a second panel discussion.

On 22nd November, 2017 LGBTI activists from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Belarus were invited to a reception on the occasion of the upcoming “Rainbow Rights” regional seminar, hosted by the Ambassador of Finland in Lithuania, H. E. Christer Michelsson.

The participants of the reception were greeted by H. E. Christer Michelsson, the Ambassador of Finland in Lithuania, Vladimir Simonko, Executive Director of LGL, and representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Finland, “Seta – LGBTI Rights in Finland” and the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities.

The “Rainbow Rights” Steering Committee meeting took place at the Embassy of Finland in Vilnius on 24th November, 2017. The participants of the meeting were kindly welcomed by H. E. Christer Michelsson, the Ambassador of Finland in Lithuania.

The project “Rainbow Rights” is carried out by the Ministry of Justice of Finland in partnership with Ministry of Social Affairs and Health of Finland and the national umbrella NGO “Seta – LGBTI Rights in Finland”, the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities and the National LGBT* rights organization LGL. The project seeks to promote non-discrimination at local level both in Finland and in other EU Member States.
