EuroPride 2015: Be the Change!

Today is the Day. EuroPride finally touched the beautiful city of Riga and, from today till the 21st of June, will bring a wave of freshness, liveliness and queer love to the Latvian capital-city.  The event makes history in the way that, this year, EuroPride takes place in a post-Soviet country for the first time.

It is only the first day and the EuroPride agenda is fully packed with events. Most of the events are taking place at the Pride House, such as themed-exhibitions, literature workshops and film screenings. The opening of the EuroPride will occur in the evening and will mark a week that is expecting to be sparkling at least. The National LGBT* Organization will contribute to make the agenda even more engaging, by organizing a discussion on the 18th of June at the Pride House, before the movie screening on the Baltic Pride 2013, Vilnius.

Main event of the agenda, will be the Pride march, symbolizing the visibility of LGBT* people and their rights to freedom of assembly. In the past days, several parades made history for the number of people who joined the event. From Tel-Aviv to Rome, impressive was the mobilization that was achieved in these countries. On Saturday the 20th of June, the Pride Parade will start in Vērmanes Park, Riga. This parade will draw attention to problems of LGBT* people not only in Latvia and in the Baltics but also in Eastern Europe and beyond – in post-Soviet countries and other places in the world where LGBT rights are at critical risk.

LGL is already organizing a trip to the Latvian capital, and invites all interested people to walk alongside its team in the “EuroPride 2015” march.

Looking forward to joining the parade? Make history, be the change!
