LGBT* Panel at World Economic Forum

Every year in January, nearly 2,600 world leaders, CEOs, heads of nonprofits, leading academics, and journalists from more than 100 countries gather in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum annual meeting. This forum – more simply known as “Davos” – is one of the most highly visible and prestigious meetings of its kind and generates an enormous amount of media attention. The delegates at Davos debate some of the most important issues shaping our world today. One of these issues this year is inclusion and leveraging the power of diversity.

Embracing an inclusive culture that supports diverse talent is fundamental now to how companies compete successfully in the global marketplace. And yet while the number of companies supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT*) equality in the workplace internationally has grown tremendously in the past decade, LGBT* is a relatively new topic in the C-suite.

At Davos, Accenture is hosting a panel discussion with business leaders to shine a spotlight on the LGBT* workforce and the challenges companies encounter across their global operations. The panel, moderated by CNN anchor Richard Quest, will discuss:

  • Why is LGBT* on the radar now in the corporate suite  – e.g. with Tim Cook of Apple recently coming out
  • What effect does diversity have on attracting top talent?
  • Not all countries are in the same place when it comes to LGBT* equality – what challenges does this pose for international organizations?
  • What’s the best way to groom future leaders?

Workplace Pride has been working with its member Accenture behind the scenes with a number of aspects regarding the panel. Given the topic, which is of interest to all Workplace Pride members, we encourage you to watch the LGBT* Panel’s live broadcast from Davos. This will also be a ‘low-threshold’ eye-opener for many of your colleagues/managers who may not be familiar with the topic of LGBT* inclusion at work.  Learn more about the panel and download a calendar invite for the event.
