Lithuania’s top homophobe to represent country in the Council of Europe

The DELFI news portal is reporting that Petras Grazulis, the colorful and leading opponent against LGBT rights in Lithuania, will join the country’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, one of the continent’s principle organizations defending human rights in 47 countries, in January, 2014.

Grazulis has apparently signed a pledge to defend the principles and goals of the Council of Europe, including the freedom of assembly and expression. Grazulis (also a Lithuanian MP) led the fight to ban Baltic Pride parades in Vilnius in 2010 and 2013. He has also introduced numerous draft laws in parliament to limit LGBT rights, including most recently a proposal to remove protections against anti-LGBT hate speech or discrimination.
