Over the past few months, the ACTIVEAID project has reached an important implementation stage, working closely with professionals across Europe to improve the inclusion of trans and intersex people in healthcare and employment. Through training activities, policy dialogue and stakeholder engagement, the project continues to turn research into practical action.

Training reaches 500 professionals

A major milestone has been achieved through the delivery of ACTIVEAID’s training programme across Greece, Spain, Lithuania, Ireland and Cyprus. In total, 25 training cohorts were launched, providing tailored learning pathways for healthcare professionals and employment and HR specialists.

The training modules addressed key topics including inclusive communication, legal and ethical frameworks, evidence-based healthcare, inclusive recruitment practices and action planning, while also reflecting each country’s legal context and practical realities.

Delivered by the project’s seven partner organisations, the trainings reached nearly 500 professionals. Participants highlighted the practical nature of the sessions and the opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues from different sectors. A comprehensive Training Delivery Report (D4.1), summarising the outcomes, lessons learned and key discussion themes, will be published in the coming weeks.

Stakeholders identify priorities for future policy

As part of Work Package 5, ACTIVEAID also organised two international online Policy Dialogue Roundtables, bringing together healthcare professionals, employers, policymakers, researchers, civil society organisations and representatives of trans and intersex communities.

Building on previous research, participants discussed the barriers that continue to affect access to inclusive healthcare and employment. Despite existing legal protections, stakeholders agreed that significant gaps remain in implementation. Across both sectors, participants identified professional training, stronger accountability, meaningful community participation and better cooperation between institutions as essential priorities for future action. The discussions will directly inform the project’s upcoming policy recommendations.

Looking ahead

The next phase of ACTIVEAID will focus on a series of participatory workshops involving beneficiaries and target groups. Building on the findings of the State-of-the-Art Report, focus groups and stakeholder roundtables, these workshops will support participants in co-creating practical action plans to improve equitable access to healthcare and employment for trans and intersex people.

The resulting recommendations will provide healthcare providers, employers, policymakers and other stakeholders with practical tools to foster more inclusive organisations and services across Europe.
