On May 30, 2025 the Office of the Seimas Ombudspersons became a hub of collaboration, hosting an interinstitutional discussion focused on protecting the rights of LGBTI individuals. The event was initiated by LGL, Lithuania’s national LGBT rights organization, and brought together representatives from government bodies, NGOs, and civil society.
The discussion opened with remarks by Dr. Erika Leonaitė, Head of the Seimas Ombudspersons’ Office, who emphasized that human rights must be upheld for all people—without exception. Monika Antanaitytė, Project Manager and Legal Expert at LGL, presented the latest ILGA-Europe “Rainbow Map” findings, highlighting both progress and persisting challenges in Lithuania.
The main topics covered included the interim results of the 2024–2026 Equal Opportunities Action Plan, the situation of transgender individuals, and the need to counter hate speech and hate crimes. The participants underscored that only strong interinstitutional cooperation can effectively tackle discrimination and ensure a safe environment for everyone.
Throughout the event, speakers shared best practices, voiced concerns, and explored actionable solutions to strengthen human rights protections. This discussion marked a meaningful step forward toward a more inclusive and respectful society.
