Vilnius will Bid to Host EuroPride 2027

National LGBT rights organisation LGL, organiser of the Baltic Pride and LT Pride festivals in Vilnius, has submitted a letter of intent to the Board of the European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA), expressing its intent to submit an application to EPOA for the opportunity to organise EuroPride in Vilnius in 2027.

Vilnius will compete with Gloucestershire (UK), Turin (Italy) and Torremolinos (Spain) for the right to host EuroPride in 2027.

LGL will submit its application to organise EuroPride in Vilnius in 2027 in close cooperation with LGBT communities, human rights organisations, Vilnius City Municipality, inclusive business leaders and national music awards “M.A.M.A.“. The application will be presented to the members of the EPOA at the Annual Members’ Meeting in Porto (Portugal) in November 2024.

“I am delighted that Vilnius is becoming an increasingly open city for the LGBT community, and that the initiative to bid to host EuroPride in Vilnius in 2027 has the support of Vilnius City Municipality and other partners. Vilnius will be bidding to host EuroPride for the first time. I am sure that EuroPride would attract many tourists to Vilnius and would become a celebration for the LGBT community, as well as for the citizens of Vilnius and the city’s visitors. Moreover, Vilnius has already become a safe haven for LGBT rights activists from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia,“ commented Vladimir Simonko, Executive Director of LGL.

“It is symbolic that Lithuania will hold the position of Presidency of the Council of the European Union in January–June 2027. LGL actively contributes to the implementation of EU LGBTIQ Equality Strategy and presented the National LGBTIQ Equality Plan,” added LGL Executive Director.

EuroPride is Europe’s most significant LGBTIQ+ event, organised in a different European city each year since 1992. Cities compete for the right to organise EuroPride by submitting applications and presenting them at the annual meeting of EPOA. The general meeting of members decides which city is to host the EuroPride.

In 2024 EuroPride will take place in Thessaloniki (Greece), in 2025 in Lisbon, and in 2026 in Amsterdam (together with WorldPride).

LGL is currently organising the upcoming LT Pride festival in Vilnius, taking place on 4-8 June 2024.
