Belgian Pride 2017: Get the Lowdown on Euro Capital’s LGBTI Fest This May

All you need to know ahead of parade day on 20 May, themed around ‘Crossing Borders’

The mighty Belgian Pride is back, for the 22nd year in a row.

It’s one of the earliest European prides of the season, and also one of the most popular.

This epic event regularly attracts 100,000 revelers from across the continent, and beyond!

When is Belgian Pride?

The larger PrideFestival kicked off last week, on 4 May, and lasts until 21 May.

Meanwhile, Belgian Pride (the day of the main parade and afterparties) takes place on 20 May.

Where is it?

The action takes place in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, and of the European Union.

The city is home to 1.14 million people, and is known for being one of the world’s most LGBTI-friendly destinations. Queer people in Belgium generally enjoy a wonderful quality of life – same-sex sex was legalized in 1795!

Meanwhile, gay marriage was legalized in 2003 – making it the second country in the world to make the move after the Netherlands.

What’s this year’s theme?

The two-week PrideFestival and Belgian Pride day revolve around the theme of ‘Crossing Borders,’ highlighting issues of asylum and migration.

The wider event will be full of activities, theme evenings, workshops, exhibitions, lectures, guided tours and events inspired by the topic.
