On 20th of February, 2017 students from Vilnius University, Faculty of Communication, visited LGBT* centre.
In the beginning of the meeting, students shortly introduced themselves and spoke about their interests. Moreover, students shared their knowledge about LGBT* human rights issues. Some have admitted that they know at least one LGBT* person in their close environment, whilst others pointed out that they only hear about LGBT* people in the media.
During the meeting Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius, Policy Coordinator (Human Rights) of the National LGBT* rights organization LGL, provided with an overview on the situation of the local LGBT* community: Lithuania’s legislative system and the issue of “anti-gay propaganda”, hate crime situation, absence of gender reassignment procedure and its’ consequences.
After the presentation, the participants of the meeting discussed the main factors, which determine the current Lithuania’s LGBT* human right situation.
