V. Aleknaite-Abramikiene claims that attempts to make Lithuania seem intolerant are done on purpose
Lithuania is on purpose portrayed as intolerant in the West. With this, attempts are made to block the West’s “appetite for the independence of the Baltic States”. Vilija Aleknaite-Abramikiene, member of Seimas, expressed such fears on Saturday, in Homeland Union- Lithuanian Christian Democrats’ (TS-LDK) conference.
She said her wish was to express the professors worry, that when it is impossible to bring Lithuania down to its knees, then attempts are made to portray Lithuania negatively to the West, so that their “appetite for the independence of the Baltic states” would be ruined once and for all.
“We feel that there are no ways to bring Lithuania down to its knees, then a negative image is drawn. Unfortunately, there are people in the West, who have different values than us. There are attempts to parry these people’s taste for the independence of the Baltic States. I would not call it anything else- to block the appetite. To prove that we are so intolerant, so terrible”- said Ms. Aleknaite-Abramikiene.
The politician clearly singled out the homosexual parade, planned in Vilnius for May 8th, and the worries of some Western politicians that our country, now doubting if such an event should be allowed, is violating human rights and freedoms.
Brigitta Ohlsson, Swedish Minister for European Affairs, is planning to arrive in support of the parade, and two openly gay EU MPs, Brittish Michael Cashman and Austrian Ulrike Lunacek, in a letter invited the Lithuanian government to not impede on the parade.
“We also have radicals from the left with the colors of the rainbow. I cannot call them anything else, especially, when one of my colleagues in the Seimas, who had civic bravery to admit to belonging to this group, said to the President in a meeting: ‘I think this is a provocation’”- explained Ms. Aleknaite-Abramikiene.
Rokas Zilinskas, a member of the Christian party fraction, does not hide his orientation.
V. Aleknaite-Abramikiene also insisted on having seen the list of people, among whom there are “radical people”, who are planning to come to Lithuania to support the gay parade
“Unofficially, I saw a list of people who are supposedly coming to Lithuania on May 8th, to show solidarity. Among them, there are very radical people, Europarliamentarians for example, from whom you do not know what to expect, and I, very honestly, doubt somewhat their sanity. However, I do not have answers about what is to be done with a situation such as this”- said the Member of Seimas
She said that she does not have a recipe how such provocations should be responded to. However, she thought that the answer may be in the gospel. The politician also thanked the Christian Democrat community for the event, and said that she is beginning to heal. V. Aleknaite-Abramikiene joked that the work in Seimas harms her nervous system, and the community’s meeting always harmonize her.
“Every time when I come to your community, I heal, I work in an environment that erodes my nervous system and the bio-field. As the contemporary brainiacs say, you harmonize all of it”- finished the MP.
