Letter of Support: Belgrade Pride 2011

Letter of Support: Belgrade Pride 2011
Lithuanian Gay League the national NGO advocating for the Rights of LGBT community in Lithuania against discrimination, homophobia and transphobia – wholeheartedly supports the holding of Belgrade Pride 2011.
As an association committed to protection of Human Rights, and especially LGBT Rights, we feel deeply concerned about the risks that the Pride organizers are forced to undertake and the difficulties they are facing in order to exercise their basic rights of assembly and expression. Furthermore, we fully understand how difficult this struggle appears, as we ourselves encountered many obstacles to hold Baltic Pride 2010 in Vilnius. We urge Serbian authorities and police to ensure the smooth course of the Pride events and the security of its participants.
LGL strongly believes that the organization of Belgrade Pride 2011 is a great contribution to the fight against discrimination and for equality, changing the world that we live in. We thus express our sincere encouragements to the organizers and participants of the March, as well as our deep gratefulness to sponsors and supporters of the event.
