Representatives of the U.S. Embasy in Vilnius visited LGL

On September 8th, 2016 the LGBT* Centre of the national LGBT* organization LGL was visited by the representatives of the U.S. Embasy in Vilnius: Ted Janis, Human Rights Officer, and Giedra Gurevičiūtė-Demereckienė, Political/Economic specialist.

Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius, Policy Coordinator (Human Rights) of the National LGBT* rights organization LGL, made ​​a presentation about the situation of LGBT* people in our country and presented the main initiatives of the organization in the framework of the European Union.

The representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius welcomed the success of the Baltic Pride 2016, organized by LGL this June, and growing public awareness on LGBT* human rights issues in Lithuania.

The participants of the meeting expressed hope that in the future the support for LGBT* human rights by Lithuanian lawmakers will also gradually grow and the legislative initiatives aiming to limit those rights will be prevented.
