“Equal opportunities for all – Multiple Discrimination matters”, conference on 6-7 December, Elsinore, Denmark

The first European conference on Multiple Discrimination was held in Elsinore, Denmark on 6-7 December 2007.
The conference brought together over 100 participants representing Ministry officials, representatives of the National Equality Bodies, Social Partners, NGOs and experts working in the field of anti-discrimination. All participants took active part in the plenary discussions and roundtable sessions.
Starting with an introduction to the study “Tackling multiple discrimination – Practices, policies and laws”, the conference devoted its first day to examining why and in what ways Multiple Discrimination matters and how it can be combated. On the second day participants worked in roundtable sessions during which the recommendations of the report on Multiple Discrimination was discussed. The conference wrapped in a closing plenary session looking forward.
The conference marked the publication of the above study carried out for the European Commission by the Danish Institute for Human Rights. The objective of the conference was to present and disseminate the findings and to share knowledge and recommendations on how to tackle discrimination on more than one ground.
