The Swedish minister for EU affairs Birgitta Ohlsson says she would participate in Vilnius’ gay pride parade in May, the Baltic News Service reported on Thursday.
Ohlsson, who is currently on a working visit to Lithuania, said she would be delivering a speech at the event.
“I will be among those participants who will give speeches. I encourage more people to take part in it. I‘ll attempt to gather other EU affairs ministers too. I know that people are interested, and it is important to attract more politicians,” Ohlsson told journalists.
She stated that participating in the parade is important to her as a liberal politician, and to emphasize that homosexual rights are not special – they are just ordinary human rights.
The Swedish minister, known for her feminist views, also mentioned that the minor protection law, which recently came into effect in Lithuania, is violating the right of expression and freedom of information.
The gay pride parade is being organised in Lithuania for the first time and will run on May 8th in the capital Vilnius.
