LGL is restarting the Book Club, so join the discussion about (a)sexual identities!

Have you ever thought about how your own sexual identity was formed, or why joining a group of people with the same identity as you can help to change public perceptions?

If you start thinking at these questions, feel free to share your thoughts with us through discussing an extract about how and why sexual and asexual identities are formed. In the chapter “Forging an (A)sexual Identity” in Anthony F. Bogaert’s non fiction book Understanding Asexuality, he discusses why there is even a need for different sexual identities, e.g. gay, lesbian, bisexual, and especially asexual. While both the whole book’s and this chapter’s theme is asexuality, Bogaert “demonstrates the importance of asexuality not only in its own right as an understudied subject but also in how it contrasts with other sexual orientations” (Library Journal).

So let’s gather in LGL’s LGBT center to discuss how his concepts might apply to our own (a)sexual identities. The idea of the Book Club is to discuss a particular topic in a cosy atmosphere together with a cup of tea and some good literature. Every three weeks a chapter from a book on a particular topic will be put online to read in advance and then to discuss our thoughts together. Join us on Tuesday, February 27th at LGBT Center!
