National LGBT* rights organization LGL would like to take an opportunity to kindly invite you to the International conference “Tackling Homophobic and Transphobic Bullying: Challenges and Effective Responses” which will take place in Vilnius on October 2, 2014.
As such homophobic and transphobic bullying is a form of discrimination and exclusion. It has an impact on those who are bullied, those that do the bullying, bystanders and the school in which bullying takes place. Homophobic and transphobic bullying has serious educational consequences, it impacts on the right to education and Education for All and it violates the principle of safety at schools.
And, although, much progress has been made to confront bullying in Europe, it is clear that LGBT* youth of Lithuania do not feel safe to be open about their sexuality and confront gender-based discrimination and violence at educational institutions. The development of a national LGBT* school curriculum and anti-bullying procedures for educational institutions are thus to be introduced and implemented.
The conference is particularly important, because it contributes towards implementation of European values and strengthening of Lithuania’s European identity. The importance of conference is highlighted by the most recent discussions about LGBT* human rights in Lithuania.
The event is free and will be held in Lithuanian, English, simultaneous translation provided.
Please inform about your participation by e-mail email@example.com.
The conference is organized as part of the project “C.O.D.E: Coming out for Diversity and Equality” which is funded by the European Union employment and social solidarity program PROGRESS.
