ZAGREB PRIDE SENDS SOLIDARITY AND SUPPORT LETTER TO "RAINBOW DAYS’2007"

The months from April to August have been designated as Pride months in celebration of the struggles and achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people in Europe and marking the anniversary of the uprising that occurred at the Stonewall Inn on June 27, 1969, in New York City. The uprising was, in response to bar raids and attacks by the police, led by working-class gay and transgender people, many of whom were African-American or Latin-American, and became a rallying point for LGBT people in the United States and soon all around the world.

Every year since, we LGBTIQ people, and our allies have been holding parades and rallies to highlight the discrimination that we face and our struggle for dignity, equality and liberation.

We at the Zagreb Pride Organizing Committee are standing in solidarity with you, our LGBTIQ friends form Vilnius, Lithuania in the fight for full equality and in demanding an end to the violence and discrimination against LGBTIQ people in our South-Eastern and Eastern Europe, in our streets, our schools, workplaces and communities.

We will be marching, rallying and celebrating Zagreb Pride on July 7th and we invite you all to write statements of support this year to as many different queer and Pride events as you can.

Zagreb Pride will publish all the support we receive on our website, www.zagreb-pride.net, as an expression of the two-way solidarity for the mutual and similar problems we all face.

We think the "Rainbow days 2007" and Lietuvos geju lyga’s attitude towards LGBT public work, LGBT prides and festivals will empower and encourage Zagreb Pride participants and our LGBTIQ community in Croatia and in the Region.

We would like to share your message to Zagreb Pride regarding the importance of organizing these events and making an international solidarity and support front in fighting homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. Please write a sentence or two and send us some pictures. ;-)

In solidarity,
For Zagreb Pride Organizing Committee
Marko Jurcic
