Book Club - Outside Edition

We’re coming at you with the next Book Club, and this time we’re taking it outdoors! We’ll be discussing gender identities, how they form, what influences them, and the connection between gender identities and bodies.

The chapter we’ll be working with is “Gender Embodied” from feminist and psychotherapist Ellyn Kaschak’s book “Engendered Lives – A New Psychology of Women’s Experience”. “This study is an analysis of the relationship between the social construction of gender and the most intimate feelings and thoughts of women. Using examples from everyday life, and from film and literature, It presents a psychology of women that integrates all aspects of experience.” (from amazon.com). Even though it’s written a bit scholarly, it’s still quite easy to read.

We included the introduction to the pdf, though you don’t necessarily have to read it, the chapter itself is more important. We hope you will enjoy reading it!

We’ll meet on June 19th in a comfortable atmosphere to discuss this topic. This time we will meet in LGBT center but then go outside to a nearby park, if the weather is as nice as it has been these last weeks! If it’s not so good we will stay inside as usual.

The idea of the Book Club is to discuss a particular topic in a cosy atmosphere together with a cup of tea and some good literature. Every three weeks a chapter from a book on a particular topic will be put online to read in advance and then to discuss our thoughts together.

LGL is carrying out the 10-month project “Disappearing Borders: Empowering LGBT Community and Allies In Lithuania” under the Erasmus+ program EVS (European Voluntary Service).
