Workshop on Gender Identity for University Students

LGL’s EVS volunteers held a workshop about gender identity and sexual orientation in the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University this Tuesday. The target group was mainly the English-speaking students of the University.

The workshop consisted of two main parts: gender identity and sexual orientation. While the presentation was prepared by João , the activities were done by Arnold. The first activity helped the participants learn some new vocabulary around the general topics of the workshop. By matching the terms with the definition, they had the chance to find out what words like asexual, gender-fluid or deadnaming mean. This activity was followed  by an insightful presentation on gender and sex, gender identity and gender expression. We could tell from their facial expression that this part of the workshop was a real eye-opener.

The second part was introduced with another activity where the participants shared their opinions on some LGBT+ related questions. The second presentation was about sexual orientation and its intersectionality with gender identity. The last activity gave the participants even more space for discussion on the aforementioned topics.

Overall, the workshop was a very pleasant experience. LGL’s EVS volunteers had the possibility to meet new people and share their knowledge on gender identity and LGBT+ questions. The participants, on the other hand, had the chance to learn about topics that are not frequently discussed in their curriculum.

LGL is carrying out the 10-month project “Disappearing Borders: Empowering LGBT Community and Allies In Lithuania” under the Erasmus+ program EVS (European Voluntary Service).
